A bonus bird as there's nowt about in HK



This is a Yellow-billed stork taken in Kenya in September 2005. Gorgeous early morning light. Hand held, taken from a boat.

How did you manage to get such a clear shot in that light? (Skill? Luck? Good camera?) And she's (he's?) giving you such a bashful look too!

Firstly, I was reasonably close as the bird didn't react to a small boat. Secondly the soft morning light is actually good for photographs and with an image stabilized lens it was effectively an extra stop or two of speed. A good camera helps and the 1D mk III would now get me a sharper result as I would happily shoot at ISO 1600 to get more shutter speed. And of course LUCK.
